Eric Sangar est maître de conférences en science politique à Sciences Po Lille et chercheur au laboratoire CERAPS (Université de Lille). Avant son arrivée à Lille en 2018, il a occupé plusieurs positions dans des institutions de recherche en Europe : entre autres, il a été Chargé de recherches FNRS (IIe classe) à l'Université de Namur, chercheur postdoctoral à King's College London (membre du projet européen INFOCORE), et postdoctoral fellow à l'IRSEM (Paris) dans le cadre du programme Fernand Braudel, financé par la Maison des Sciences de l’Homme. 

Dans ses recherches, il s'intéresse aux usages de l'histoire dans les discours et stratégies de conflit, à la mobilisation émotionnelle dans la justification de la violence et à la diffusion de normes et idées dans les relations franco-allemandes.

Eric Sangar est diplômé du Master Affaires internationales de Sciences Po Paris et titulaire d’un doctorat en sciences sociales et politiques de l’Institut universitaire européen de Florence. En 2014, sa thèse a été publiée sous le titre “Historical Experience: Burden or Bonus in Today’s Wars?”. Il a publié dans des revues à comité de lecture comme the "Journal of Strategic Studies", "Political Psychology" ou "Temporalités" et co-édité l'ouvrage collectif "Researching Emotions in International Relations: Methodological Perspectives on the Emotional Turn" (avec Maéva Clément).

Eric Sangar is a Lecturer in Political Science at Sciences Po Lille and a full member of the research unit CERAPS (University of Lille). Prior to his arrival in Lille in 2018, he worked in various positions at European research institutions, including as a FNRS research fellow based at the University of Namur (Belgium), as a Research Associate at King's College London as part of the EU project INFOCORE, and as a Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institut de Recherche Stratégique de l’Ecole Militaire (IRSEM) in Paris.

In his personal research, he is studying the links between collective memory and uses of history in foreign policy and conflict discourse, the role of emotions in the justification of violence, and diffusion processes in Franco-German relations. Eric has published articles in various journals such as 'Political Psychology', the 'Journal of Strategic Studies', and 'Contemporary Security Policy'. He authored the monograph “Historical Experience: Burden or Bonus in Today’s Wars? The British Army and the German Bundeswehr in Afghanistan” (2014) and co-edited with Maéva Clément the collective volume "Researching Emotions in International Relations: Methodological Perspectives on the Emotional Turn" (2018).

Eric holds a PhD in Social and Political Sciences from the European University Institute in Florence and an MA in International Affairs from Sciences Po Paris.

Eric Sangar est responsable pédagogique du double-diplôme franco-allemand (FIFA) et, avec Sami Makki, co-responsable de la majeure "Stratégie, Intelligence, Gestion des Risques" (SIGR).

Il est aussi coordinateur de work package dans le cadre du projet collaboratif DATAWAR, financé par l'Agence nationale de la recherche (2020-2023).

Eric Sangar is the academic coordinator of the Franco-German double degree (FIFA) and, together with Sami Makki, he is coordinating the Master "Stratégie, Intelligence, Gestion des Risques" (SIGR).

He also serves as a work package coordinator as part of the collaborative project DATAWAR, funded by the French research agency ANR (2020-2023).
